Women Earn More Than Men in the Crypto Industry, According to a Study!
A new study by Pantera Capital reveals a surprising inverted salary gap between men and women in the crypto industry. While women are often underpaid in other sectors, here they earn 15% more than their male counterparts.
An inverted salary gap in crypto
Between June 4th and July 20th, 2024, Pantera Capital used platforms such as LinkedIn and newsletters to conduct a salary study in the crypto industry. This survey, which collected data from 502 full-time employees in the United States, revealed a surprising inverted salary gap. Indeed, women earn on average 15% more than their male counterparts in this sector.
According to the figures, the median salary for women amounts to $172,000, compared to $150,000 for men. This finding contrasts sharply with general data from the US labor market, where women typically earn $0.84 for every dollar earned by a man. This situation highlights a trend towards greater salary equity in the cryptocurrency sector.
The reasons behind this salary gap
Pantera Capital’s survey indicates that the inverted salary gap in crypto could be due to a combination of specific factors. In reality, women working in this sector have, on average, more experience than their male counterparts, with a median of 5.3 years compared to 4.5 years for men.
This increased experience could explain their greater presence in intermediate to senior level positions, where salaries are generally higher. Researchers noted that men often start at lower levels in this sector, while women more quickly access leadership roles.
However, women are less represented in executive positions within the crypto industry. A report by Forex Suggest indicates that in 2023, only three of the 50 leading CEOs in the sector were women. This imbalance highlights that there is still a way to go to achieve true gender equality, despite advances in fair compensation.
Concretely, the data revealed by Pantera Capital’s survey highlight a movement towards greater salary equity in the crypto industry. However, although women benefit from higher salaries, they continue to face obstacles in reaching executive positions. This trend could open interesting prospects for the future of inclusion and equity in crypto. However, efforts are still needed to balance representation at all levels.
