Crypto: CZ, the Former CEO of Binance, Has Been Released from Prison!
Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder of the crypto exchange Binance, was recently transferred from FCI Lompoc II prison in California to a halfway house in Long Beach. This transfer marks an important step in his judicial journey, but it does not mean his complete release. CZ, who had been sentenced to four months in prison for not implementing an adequate Know Your Customer (KYC) program on Binance, still has to serve the rest of his sentence until September 29, 2024.

The halfway house, also known as a “reintegration residence,” is a facility administered by the Bureau of Prisons that helps inmates prepare for their reintegration into society. Although Changpeng Zhao is no longer in a traditional prison, he still has to abide by strict rules and is not yet fully free. This news has sparked mixed reactions among crypto users, with some mistakenly believing that CZ had been prematurely released.
In parallel with this transition, CZ and Binance are facing a new lawsuit filed by three crypto investors. They accuse Binance of not implementing effective Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) measures, thereby allowing criminals to launder stolen funds through the platform.
