Ethereum Shifts Gears: Goodbye Forks, Hello Efficiency!
The developers of Ethereum have decided to accelerate the deployment of hard forks. The goal: to enhance scalability and maintain the network’s competitiveness. We will tell you everything in the following paragraphs!
Pectra: a major update of Ethereum starting in April
Named Pectra, the next upgrade Ethereum is scheduled for April. According to several analysts who are experts in cryptography, it could be the most significant in the history of the crypto network. The reason? It incorporates up to 20 EIPs. This includes:
- improvements for cryptocurrency wallets,
- an optimization of data availability.
One of the major advancements of Pectra lies in the doubling of the number of blobs dedicated to data. Specifically, they increased from three to six. This directly improves the scalability of the network. This update will also simplify user interaction with Ethereum, making crypto transactions smoother and more accessible.
According to a researcher from the Ethereum Foundation, Tim Beiko, the Pectra system contracts will be deployed on the Ethereum mainnet starting February 17.
Fusaka: a second strategic update
In parallel with Pectra, the developers have set the deadline of April 10 to finalize Fusaka. This is another upgrade focused on improving the inclusion process of Ethereum transactions. The EIP proposals included in Fusaka must be submitted by March 13, while the community will be able to express its preferences until March 27.
This acceleration is occurring in a context of increased pressure on Ethereum. The venture capital firm Paradigm has indeed recently urged developers to hasten protocol improvements to retain a competitive edge.
With Pectra and Fusaka, Ethereum is therefore embarking on a rapid transformation that could redefine its future. The era of slowness seems to be over: Ethereum is now entering a phase of accelerated innovation. It remains to be seen whether this sustained pace will be sufficient to maintain its leadership against emerging competitors!
