Elon Musk no longer hides his unwavering support for Donald Trump and hopes to see him triumph in the presidential election on November 5. The billionaire is pulling out all the stops, using his millions to lure voters in key states. Behind his promises of gifts and libertarian slogans lies a controversial campaign, where the legality of certain practices raises questions.

Elon Musk: a support worth millions of $

To ensure that Trump’s name resonates again in the corridors of the White House, Elon Musk has spared no expense, aside from his bet of 75 million. Through his political action committee, America PAC, he promises one million dollars every day to a lucky signer of his petition, all the way until election day.

But be careful, the six-figure check is not distributed just anywhere: only residents of the famous “swing states”, those states where the election is hanging by a thread, are eligible.

Musk’s plan resembles a real data hunting expedition. Signers must provide their contact details to claim the jackpot, a maneuver aimed at collecting as many contacts as possible to mobilize voters on the big day. With states like Pennsylvania where a few thousand votes can sway the balance, the billionaire’s strategy could prove decisive.

The objectives of Musk are not limited to easy money. Behind the incentives lie conservative values highlighted in the petition, such as freedom of speech and the right to bear arms, themes that are dear to Trump’s supporters.

The key points of the initiative:

  • Promise of one million dollars per day to signers;
  • Massive collection of electoral data in key states;
  • Promotion of conservative values aimed at attracting undecided voters.

Controversies surrounding the legality of Musk’s promises

Musk’s initiative, while spectacular, is not without raising doubts. For some legal experts, the billionaire’s approach is simply illegal. According to Richard Hasen, a law professor at the University of California, Musk is dangerously close to the red line: U.S. law prohibits any payment in exchange for registration on the electoral rolls or for a vote.

Thus, the financial rewards promised by the founder of SpaceX and Tesla could be considered an attempt to buy votes, an offense punishable by severe penalties.

Other experts, like Bradley Smith, former head of the Federal Election Commission, nuance this interpretation. According to him, the bonuses do not specifically target new registrants, but also those who are already registered, which would make the initiative less prone to prosecution.

Nevertheless, the promise of money for a political act remains a delicate subject and is bound to provoke reactions.

The governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, has even asked the authorities to closely examine Musk’s actions, describing it all as “deeply concerning“.

Criticism is increasing, experts are contradicting each other, but one thing is certain: Elon Musk has not finished shaking up the norms of American politics with his unconventional methods.

Moreover, Musk’s strong support for Trump reflects his belief that America is headed towards an imminent collapse, and that it is better to trust a pro-bitcoin (BTC) president to face it.
