Nodes, Speed, Gas... Everything Changes On BNB Chain Starting April 29
The BNB Chain network is about to reach a crucial milestone with the activation of the Lorentz hard fork, scheduled for April 29, 2025, at 5:05 UTC. This technical upgrade marks a major evolution of Binance’s blockchain infrastructure, aiming to improve the speed and smoothness of crypto transactions.
In Brief
- The BNB Chain’s Lorentz hard fork will be activated on April 29, reducing block time from 3 to 1.5 seconds.
- Several technical parameters will be modified, including increasing the Epoch and lowering the gas limit.
- All BSC nodes must be updated before the hard fork, while BNB gains visibility on Kraken.
BNB Chain: Reducing Block Time from 3 to 1.5 Seconds
The core of this update on BNB Chain is based on implementing BEP-520, which halves the block time of the BSC network, reducing it from 3 to 1.5 seconds. This change aims to reduce latency, accelerate transaction finalization, and offer a significantly improved user experience for developers, validators, and end users.
The increased speed should also encourage the adoption of BNB Chain in use cases requiring high responsiveness. Beyond the block time reduction, the Lorentz hard fork will introduce other important adjustments:
- The Epoch will increase from 200 to 500;
- The gas limit will be halved (from 140 to 70 million gwei);
- The “Consecutive TurnLength” will double, increasing from 4 to 8.
These changes on BNB Chain aim to strengthen Binance’s network resilience while maintaining its overall throughput.
Nodes Must Update Before April 29
All BSC nodes must upgrade to version 1.5.10 before the hard fork. A similar prior update was successfully completed on the OpBNB network on April 21, reducing its block time to 0.5 seconds.
Meanwhile, the BNB crypto was listed on the Kraken platform on April 22, with four trading pairs available (BNB/EUR, BNB/USD, BNB/USDC, and BNB/USDT). This development strengthens the appeal of the Binance ecosystem.
With the Lorentz hard fork, BNB Chain takes a decisive technological step to accelerate and optimize its network. This evolution strengthens Binance’s position in the crypto universe while providing users and developers with a faster, more stable infrastructure better suited to the demands of Web3.
