Elon Musk, the billionaire known for his ready wit, has just tossed his feelings into the face of advertisers who have halted their advertising campaigns on X. Feeling subjected to a kind of blackmail, the irate entrepreneur sheds the jacket of political correctness and lets loose. “Go fuck yourself!” he said to the companies trying to “blackmail X”. It was on November 29th, during a conference organized by the New York Times in New York.

The social network platform X is likely to face a very difficult end of the year, with losses reaching $75 million. At least, that’s the threat waved by 200 unhappy advertisers ready to permanently stop their advertising campaigns on X. It was in response to Elon Musk’s comments deemed “anti-Semitic and racist hate”.

As for the threat which could heavily weigh on X’s finances, Elon Musk seems to not give a damn either. During the 2023 DealBook Summit in New York on Wednesday, November 29th, he apologized for those tweets he called “stupid” before letting loose without a filter.

“If someone is going to try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money, go fuck yourself. Go fuck yourself. Is that clear? I hope it is.”

The billionaire who has “no problem being hated” made his point clear and not even the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, who was in the audience, would say otherwise. Elon Musk also greeted him with a “hello Bob!”, since his company has also halted advertising campaigns on X.

X, which is now worth half of the $44 billion that its acquisition cost, could risk bankruptcy with the contraction of its advertising revenue. Elon Musk has pointed out that “what this ad boycott is going to do is kill the company”.

In response, the billionaire with more than 156.1 million followers on X and over 130 million subscribers on Instagram, has issued threats against the advertisers. He promised that “the entire world will know that these advertisers killed the company” and that he will prove it down to the last detail.

Fortunately, X doesn’t yet have a native crypto. Otherwise, Elon Musk would have made it one of the most volatile cryptocurrencies on the market. What is certain, responding to a threat with a threat was a stroke of genius. We’ll see in the coming days how the advertisers react to Musk’s outburst.
