Vitalik Buterin, the genius behind Ethereum, reflects on his exceptional journey in the world of cryptocurrencies as he approaches his 30th birthday. In an introspective blog post, he retrospectively analyses the upheavals in his life and in the industry over the past decade.

Indeed, Vitalik Buterin was only 19 years old when he created the Ethereum protocol, becoming a leading figure in crypto. Ten years later, he looks back with both admiration and criticism on his rise to prominence and the path he has taken since then.

The Canadian computer scientist of Russian origin has been struck in recent years by the emergence of many young talents even younger than he was at the time. Whereas 10 years ago, he was revered as a child prodigy, revolutionizing the world.

This observation has led him to reconsider his own role, admitting that it was now time to pass the baton to the new generation.

  “Seeing all these people going further than me, younger than me, it became clear that while that might have been my role, it no longer is”, he wrote.

The founder of Ethereum explains that his vision has evolved considerably in 10 years. His interests have diversified, focusing less on crypto economics and exploring other areas such as longevity.

At the same time, he has seen several major figures in the field disappear, forcing him to assume a new role. Buterin admits that he can no longer just follow in the footsteps of his idol Satoshi Nakamoto. He must forge his own path, as a proactive innovator, to guide the future of the blockchain ecosystem.

The creator of Ethereum feels that it is now time for him to hand over the reins. Although he has been able to play a pioneering role and launch innovations, he believes that the new talents will be able to take crypto even further.

“I now play a different role, and it’s time for the next generation to take over the torch,” he states.

While remaining an influential figure in blockchain, Vitalik Buterin wants to channel his energy to encourage and guide rising developers, some of whom may one day surpass his own achievements. His thirtieth birthday thus symbolically marks the beginning of a new era.
