Elon Musk, the businessman at the helm of Tesla and SpaceX, is making headlines due to his open political support for Donald Trump. With massive donations totaling 75 million dollars in favor of “America PAC,” the pro-Trump political committee, Musk is shaking up the dynamics of the 2024 presidential campaign. This support, much more than just a financial gesture, marks a strategic turning point in Silicon Valley’s involvement in US elections, and raises questions about the influence of tech giants in the political sphere.

Musk’s Massive Donations: A Strategic Support to Trump

Elon Musk, known for his controversial stances on the public stage, made headlines this week for his significant financial support to Donald Trump. According to data published by the American Electoral Commission (FEC), Musk reportedly paid a total of 75 million dollars to “America PAC,” a political committee designed to support Trump. These payments were spread over three months: 15 million dollars in July, followed by 30 million in August and another 30 million in September. An amount that directly contradicts Musk’s statements in July, where he had denied supporting Trump to the tune of 45 million dollars per month. “It’s grotesque,” he had even commented on his own social network, X (formerly Twitter).

These donations, although massive, are not trivial. “America PAC” does not just distribute traditional advertisements: the committee focuses on a field campaign through voter mobilization in key states. This strategy relies on concrete actions, such as door-to-door, with up to 30 dollars an hour for those participating in this operation. Musk’s involvement goes beyond simple financing. It aligns with a much more strategic approach, aimed at influencing results in important states for the 2024 election.

A Political Commitment Beyond Finances

Beyond simple donations, Elon Musk took a new step in his support for Donald Trump with his appearance on stage alongside the former president during a rally last week. On stage, Musk not only expressed his unreserved support, but he also stated he would be ready to govern alongside Trump in case of victory. A statement that marks a clear break with his previous positions, where he had preferred to stay away from political candidates. “If he loses, I’m screwed,” Musk even confessed during an interview with conservative columnist Tucker Carlson. He hints that his personal interests would be severely impacted in the event of Trump’s defeat.

This financial and public support could further impact Donald Trump’s campaign, both in terms of financing and media influence. With 40 million dollars still available in the “America PAC” coffers, according to the latest FEC information, and the X social network under his control, Musk possesses powerful levers to influence voters and steer public discussion. Moreover, his personal engagement on the ground, notably in Pennsylvania, shows that he no longer merely finances: he actively seeks to tip the scales in favor of Trump.

Elon Musk’s involvement in Donald Trump’s campaign highlights the growing interconnection between politics and major tech figures. While Musk’s financial donations and public statements bolster the Republican candidate’s campaign, they raise questions about the ability of these technology giants to directly influence democratic elections. The future will tell if this strategic support will translate into electoral success, but one thing is certain: Musk’s influence now extends far beyond the borders of the tech sector.
