Darknet hackers are selling crypto accounts for $30

A study by Privacy Affairs has revealed that darknet hackers are selling Binance accounts for $410 on the dark web. Accounts on other crypto platforms are being sold for as low as $30 each. Online bank account identification information and credit card details are also being sold.

Buying crypto accounts from all major crypto exchanges on the darknet

Privacy Affairs is a provider of online security data. They published a report based on research which revealed that dark web hackers are selling all kinds of financial information on the dark web. This includes account information from major cryptocurrency exchanges. The most expensive accounts are those of Kraken, which are worth $1,170. It is followed by Binance at $410. Next are Crypto.com and Coinbase at $300 and $250 respectively. The cheapest accounts are those of American Bittrex users, sold for $30.

In one year, these prices have increased significantly. As Cointelegraph reminds us, Kraken and Binance accounts were sold for $260 and $250 respectively in 2022. This information can easily allow a hacker to pass identity verification checks and pose as the account holder.

Crypto accounts are not the only victims of darknet hackers. 

Credit card details with account balances of up to $5,000 can also be purchased on the dark web. They are sold for $110. Online bank account identification information is also being sold. For just $60, you can buy an account with a balance of $2,000.

Login credentials for Facebook, Gmail, and Instagram are also available. With Facebook and Instagram accounts priced at around $25, while Gmail accounts are around $60. Physical documents such as driver’s licenses and passports can also be found, sold for as low as $150.

2022 was particularly tumultuous in terms of cryptocurrency theft. However, security is often mentioned as one of the biggest advantages of cryptocurrencies. Could cybercrime be a hindrance to the expansion of crypto?
