The Shift in Search Trends: Bitcoin Gives Way to AI

Since the emergence of Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies have captured the collective imagination, reigning supreme over search trends.

Yet, Google Trends now unveils a new reality: searches on AI have now surpassed those on Bitcoin. The trigger? The launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI in November 2022, an AI model that has sparked global enthusiasm, achieving a score of 91 points against only 22 for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is no stranger to the market’s roller coaster. After reaching dizzying heights in 2021, it underwent a stubborn bearish cycle. Starting 2022 at $16,900, far from its record of $68,729, Bitcoin has nevertheless shown resilience, regaining approximately 150% of its value. 

Despite its impressive recovery, Bitcoin no longer manages to captivate global attention. However, it retains its popularity in countries such as El Salvador, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Switzerland.

Artificial Intelligence: A New Chapter of Innovation

The year 2022 will remain in the annals as the year when AI took flight as shown by Google Trends. From fears of massive job automation to the explosion of AI-based services, interest in this technology has seen explosive growth. 

Curiosity has increased around new chatbots such as Google Bard, Meta AI, and GrokAI. Countries like Vietnam, China, the Philippines, and Myanmar show a particularly marked interest in AI.

While Bitcoin tries to regain its former glory, AI, with its promises of a future and innovation, seems ready to take center stage.

Does this shift reflect a natural evolution of technological interests, or is it just a fleeting fluctuation?
