A crypto gem? 'I will never authorize the creation of a CBDC,' says Donald Trump
Most governments averse to cryptocurrencies opt for the most centralized version of digital assets, the CBDC. Like China, the United States, under the Biden administration, has taken a liking to the central bank digital currency. A position that Donald Trump, the Republican favorite for the next presidential elections, categorically rejects.
Trump, Crypto Over CBDC?
To date, Donald Trump has not officially stated his position on cryptocurrencies. However, the discovery of a treasure trove of ethers (ETH) in his name has fueled speculation about possible new investments in the crypto community. The fact that he has already accumulated three collections of NFTs, the latest being released last December, demonstrates his familiarity with Web 3.0 technologies.
“Donald Trump declares: ‘As President, I will never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency. Such a currency would give our federal government complete control over your money’.”
Cointelegraph highlighted that candidate Donald Trump was warmly applauded by the crowd as he promised to eliminate central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) once back in the White House. In the context of the 2024 US presidential elections, where he is anticipated to face Joe Biden, Trump successfully passed his first test in Iowa last Monday.
During his campaign in Portsmouth (New Hampshire) on January 17th, the 45th President of the United States added a new pledge to his commitment towards the mass deportation of migrants: that of NEVER allowing the creation of a CBDC in the United States.
“Tonight, I make a new promise to protect Americans from government tyranny. I will never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency,” he emphatically stated.
Feeling in tune with his audience, Donald Trump continued as follows:
“I didn’t know you knew so much… New Hampshire, very intelligent people. Such a currency would give a federal government, our federal government, absolute control over your money […] they could take your money and you wouldn’t even know it’s gone. It would be a dangerous threat to freedom and I will prevent it from coming to America.”
Do Other Influential Figures Share This Innovative Vision?
The 2024 US presidential elections are heating up with pro-crypto candidates from both parties (Republican and Democrat). Ron Desantis has already promised the end of Biden’s war against Bitcoin (BTC) and rules out any form of CBDC in the American financial landscape.
Vivek Ramaswamy, originally a candidate for the Republican nomination, also incorporated cryptos into his agenda before rallying behind Donald Trump.
On the Democrat side, Bitcoin has passionate defenders such as J.F. Kennedy Jr.
Last October, FED Governor Michelle Bowman stated that she does not see compelling arguments in favor of CBDCs.
