am Altman Unveils OpenAI's Roadmap: GPT-5 is Coming Soon
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has just announced significant updates regarding the evolution of its artificial intelligence models, with the upcoming arrival of GPT-4.5 and GPT-5. This new roadmap aims to simplify the user experience and unify the various technologies developed by the company.
OpenAI prepares the launch of GPT-4.5 and GPT-5
After having humiliated Elon Musk over the purchase of OpenAI, Sam Altman announces that the next model to be deployed will be GPT-4.5, internally known by the code name “Orion”. This model will mark the end of an era, being the last not to integrate the so-called chain-of-thought logic. This type of reasoning allows AI models to follow intermediate steps to answer complex questions, thereby enhancing their analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Sam Altman noted in his recent note that one of OpenAI’s main objectives is to eliminate the complexity of the various versions and to provide a more fluid and intuitive artificial intelligence. With the upcoming arrival of GPT-5, the o-series and GPT-series models will be merged to offer a more homogeneous and high-performing experience. This version will notably know when to take more time to think and when to respond instantly, depending on the nature of the task.
Moreover, GPT-5 will be integrated into ChatGPT and OpenAI’s API, thus replacing o3, which will no longer be available as a distinct model. This update will also bring significant enhancements by incorporating several advanced technologies such as voice, canvas (an interactive interface), search, and even deep analysis capabilities.
An improved accessibility for all users
Another major innovation concerns the availability of GPT-5. OpenAI has confirmed that the free version of ChatGPT will provide unlimited access to GPT-5, with a standard level of intelligence, subject to certain restrictions against abuse.
For ChatGPT Plus subscribers, GPT-5 will operate at a higher level of intelligence, while Pro users will benefit from even greater power. This differentiation will allow users with more advanced needs to take advantage of an increasingly high-performing AI.
Although the release date for these various models has not yet been set, Sam Altman did reveal that it would be a matter of weeks for GPT-4.5 and months for GPT-5. With this new approach combined with its recent collaboration with the U.S. national laboratories, OpenAI aims to make artificial intelligence more fluid, more intuitive, and above all, more accessible to everyone.
